When I found out Shelby was getting married at Camp Wandawega in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, I was like, OMG YEEESS!
Camp Wandawega is a boutique campground owned by a husband and wife design team. The entire camp is designed and styled to perfection. It is absolutely stunning and the epitome of glamping.
When I was designing this suite, I knew I wanted Shelby's guests to see these invitations and immediately connect with the rustic charm they would experience at this amazing camp. The camp treehouse is such an icon of grounds, so I decided to use that as a focal point of the invitation.
Since this was a letterpress suite and we were only using one color, a watercolor painting was out of the question. So, I decided to make some sketch illustrations. In addition to the treehouse, other sketches on the details card include the ceremony space at "the chapel", the bunkhouse where the reception will be held, and of course lots of trees to tie it all together! I used dotted lines on the details card to give it a treasure hunt feel.
I wanted the reply card to have some casual response wording to make it a little more fun. We decided to go with “See you at the lake” and “Sorry, can’t make it”.
Although Shelby was having her wedding at Camp Wandawega, she didn’t want her aesthetic to be too ‘campy’. She instead went for an organic, boho style with a touch of elegance - think of it as “dressing up the woods". This monotone suite flaunts modern calligraphy and kraft paper envelopes. It is letterpress printed on 100% cotton card stock. Now that is a camp-inspired invitation with class.
